Promote use of wooded lots for mushroom and fiddlehead fern production, two high value crops that do well in wooded areas. Develop a list of wooded sites that would work for this type of use for promotion to wider community to recruit interested growers to Marlborough; do outreach in neighborhoods that are heavily wooded, to existing residents, promoting the idea of a woodland food cooperative. Particular challenges to address include security, poison ivy, business start-up and ongoing management issues. (Goat herds have been used in some urban environment to control weeds, including noxious weeds such as poison ivy.)
