History of the Marlborough neighborhood
Marlborough Tour (Discovery process) led by members of the Marlborough Community Coalition Board
Neighborhood walkabout (Discovery process): volunteers, board members, Catalyst Project team members and volunteers went door to door in each of the five neighborhoods to collect input on key questions about neighborhood assets and issues.
Kick off meeting with the Advisory team. Individuals with expertise and a stake in the revitalization of the Marlborough community were invited to join an Advisory team. An initial meeting together identified overall goals and which members would serve on one of five subcommittees. (Discovery process and Implementation process)
Healthy Food team interviews with neighborhood residents and social services (Discovery process)
Communications team worked to build interfaces for stronger community connection and resource sharing. (Discovery process, Implementation process, Analysis process)
Recreation Express. Catalyst Project team participation at a Parks Department touring community event (Discovery process, Implementation process)
Bread KC! Community Dinner, and fundraiser for creative projects intended to inspire and benefit the neighborhoods (Discovery process, Implementation process). This event was designed to gather ideas from the community, but also to model a means to gather for the purposes of supporting innovative growth.
Photography Contest: Share Marlborough’s Hidden Treasures (Discovery process and Implementation process). This contest was open to all residents of the five Marlborough neighborhoods. It was designed to gather information about what people who live and work in the area appreciate about their community. It also developed a model for mentoring and recognition of creative engagement.
Team meetings. (Discovery process and Implementation process). The Healthy Food work group, Arts and Social Services work group, Mobility work group, Development work group, and Marlborough School redevelopment work group all held meetings in the community, seeking discussion and recommendations from Advisory team members and other members of the community who were invited to give their input.
Catalyst Project team meetings. All members of the team met regularly to share progress, plan and review.
Catalyst Workshop: (Analysis process and Implementation process) The consultant team and Advisory Committee worked together to prioritize the opportunities in each topic area (Identity and Communication, Arts and Social Services, Healthy Food, Mobility, Development and School Redevelopment) that the work groups have determined are the best ways to achieve community goals.
